sadI’m sure you know this, heck I know somebody has probably told you this, but sometimes it takes real convincing before people actually get it…

If Your Not In Touch With Your Database At Least Once A Month, 10% Of Them Are Likely Going To Your Competitors.

Now that may not seem fair, it may upset you but it is fact. The biggest hurdle any service or retail business needs to get over is the fact that they are not as great as they think they are! They are not so good that they can ignore their clients month after month, the ones who’ve spent good money with them, and expect them to buy again in 8 months or 12 months or… You Get The Picture.

And forget about your… “I don’t want to bug my clients” concerns, it doesn’t exist! If you’re not in regular monthly contact with your database you’re just being lazy with your business!  So the real question becomes… what do you send?  And in my opinion, the very best thing to send is well written, well intentioned newsletter.

Why a Newsletter??

First and most importantly a newsletter that is written properly is considered “Happy Mail” not “Junk Mail”. It has staying power, it has referral power and it has “making you money” power.  I personally use my newsletters in various ways…

The obvious one is to keep in regular contact with my existing database. Let them know of any promotions, let them know who wins the monthly referral contests, let them know about additional services, new products, new staff etc.

I also use the newsletter to attract new clients by adding people and companies who I want to do business with.

By sending monthly informational newsletters, I reinforce my self and my company, I create instant and long term publicity, and I place value on my products and services.

An important psychological consideration is that the bulk of the articles in your newsletter should NOT be particularly relate to your business and what you do, quite to the contrary, what’s important is the cumulative effect of your name in front of your clients or prospects, in a welcoming way, month after month after month.
